Señor de Choquekillka

This year May 24, Catholics around the world remember Pentecost, the day when the disciples received the Holy Spirit. Here on the day before, people gather in the local church for Mass and the entire town joins in colourful parades and dancing, a unique combination of Catholic and Peruvian cultures. The Peruvians love to celebrate. Each year there are over 300 festivals.  We felt very privileged to have been able to enjoy this experience.
Music playing, these dancers, with images of a tortured Christ on their capes, twirl, displaying the fullness of their skirts.
Taken from above, this dancer carries her mask through the street.
This is the dance of the lawyers, indicated by dancers with long noses.

Dancers taking a break.
