Heaven in the Andes

On our way to Urubama we stopped for a weaving demonstration at Chinchero.
We watched demonstrations about how new wool is cleaned, spun and dyed.
To make red dye, a specific bug is crushed, the serum from the bug is dried and the dried powder is mix with water to make red. If lime is added the dye turns orange, if salt was added, the dye changed to a different shade of orange.
Wool and hand made goods were available for purchase. Brenda left with an armful of baby alpaca wool, claiming she has found heaven!
