Morning on the Rhine

The Rhine River winds it's way through Germany revealing new and exciting scenes around each turn. We began our morning in Rudesheim in a quiet river, surrounded by rolling hills, covered by a grey sky.
The Ehrensfels Castle built in the 12th century, was owned by the Diocese of Mainz. It was a favorite place for many Bishops.
We soon met the Maus tower, now in a 'cage' of reinforcement. Each of the castles on the Rhine have a history as well as related folklore.
The water level of the river is low, revelling many rocky outcroppings, but of greater interest are the quaint old towns with half timber houses, nestled among vineyards.
