The morning brought us back to the Church where we celebrated Mass first in Salerno, San Mateo Cathedral. This time we joined a children's Mass complete with a children's choir and entertaining dialogue Homily.
From this youthful celebration we stepped back into the courtyard of this build, whose original construction was completed in 1058. The daylight revealed more wonders. Much of the original stone has been covered through years of repair. What remains, including some reliefs, cobblestone and brick, show signs of their age but leave one wondering of the stories these stone could tell. In one wall a tiny alcove hid a great wonder. Under an overhang, protected from the sun and the elements an old image of the Virgin Mary remains well preserved.
