The Arc de Triomphe was constructed between 1806 and 1836 to
commemorate Napoleon’s triumph at the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805. Since that
time it has become a memorial for all those who had fallen in battle. At the center of the Arc is the Tomb of the
Unknown Soldier, noted by an eternal flame.
